Santos Tour Down Under

The Santos Tour Down Under is Australia's premier international cycling race.  Staged annually since 1999, the event brings top professional cycling teams, as seen in the Tour de France, to race on the streets of Adelaide and regional South Australia over six stages (one stage per day).

Sanctioned a WorldTour by the international cycling federation (Union Cycliste Internationale) UCI, the event brings the look, feel and excitement of European racing to our doorstep and is one of the highest-ranked races outside of Europe and the highest in the Southern Hemisphere.

The Santos Tour Down Under is now the first stop in the UCI WorldTour world cycling calendar and the first ever event to be held outside of Europe.

The 2011 Santos Tour Down Under was a huge success attracting over 782,000 enthusiastic spectators who cheered on 133 cyclists from around the globe.  Riders included local legend Stuart O'Grady, sprint stars Mark Cavendish and Andre Greipel, and seven-time Tour de France winner, Lance Armstrong, who rode his farewell race at the 2011 event.

In 2012, the Santos Tour Down Under will visit the Clare Valley, Adelaide Hills, Fleurieu Peninsula and the Barossa before a gruelling finish, to the penultimate stage, at the top of Old Willunga Hill.
Prospect and the Adelaide Hills town of Lobethal will host stage starts for the first time, while the UCI WorldTour event will return to Clare and Victor Harbor.

The 2012 Santos Tour Down Under will be held in Adelaide and regional South Australia, from 15-22 January, 2012.
